Please bring in copies of design ideas on 8 1/2 x 11 paper to the January General Meeting Potluck, on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017. We’ll see what designs everyone likes, and begin the process of getting our own custom shirts, etc. for our Sebastopol Grange, maybe in time for the Apple Blossom Parade!

For All Our Relations; Standing Rock Benefit Sonoma County, Nov. 6

The earth is our mother, we must take care of her.

Standing Rock Benefit Sonoma County
Sunday, November 6th, 5-10pm,
at the Sebastopol Grange

Inspired to act in solidarity with #nodapl (No Dakota Access Pipeline) and #waterislife (Protecting our natural water sources), community members are coming together on Nov. 6th to raise money, supplies and awareness about the illegal oil pipeline project in North Dakota and the need to protect our own drinking water from contamination.

Connecting this benefit to earth stewardship and environmental protection around our local area, it highlights the need to honor and preserve sacred sites everywhere with a focus on kinder and more respectful treatment toward indigenous peoples.

Our event will include an opening prayer and water blessings, several topical speakers, musical acts, indigenous dancing, live art, a silent auction, info and letter/petition writing tables, vending booths, food and drink for sale, and a donation area drop-off for blankets and supplies, ending with a closing ceremony.

This will be a family-friendly event with games and art to engage the youth as well as educating the public.

$20 suggested donation.
Limited Presale tickets (gets your two free raffle entries!) available –

You can make a donation before the event here: https://changeaheart.nationbuilder.com/_nodapl

Profits collected will be sent to the Standing Rock Tribe in North Dakota, will be used to buy needed supplies to be delivered by us after the benefit, and a small portion will be given to support local indigenous rights, protecting the environment. This event is sponsored by The Peace and Justice Center of Sonoma County and the Sebastopol Grange #306.

Greetings from the California State Grange First Lady

California Grange flag

July 2016

First of All I would like to say Thank You to all those who participated in the 141st California State Grange Convention. It was so great seeing the fresh energy, excitement, and friendliness amongst our Brothers and Sisters! What a positive step forward and hope for our State Grange!

I want to thank all of the hard workers from the Orangevale Grange for sharing their hall, their organization, energy and tirelessness that went into putting on another professional convention! You guys are amazing!

A big Thank you also goes out to Katie Squire for all of her hard work and expertise in running the Grange EXPO and Auction. Now that we have momentum, I’m hoping that more participation from all Granges will occur next year and make this program bigger and better than ever before!

I also want to say Welcome Back to all those members who have decided to continue being a Grange Member! I want to encourage further healing, participation and friendship in our historical fraternal organization.

I was so taken back and impressed by the positive, caring attitudes of our members and how we were able to work through legislative issues on the floor in a respectful, non combative manner, showing the professionalism that this Order of Husbandry has the ability and capacity to do! We can as a team accomplish so many great things.

It’s an exciting time in our California State Grange. We have used the Motto “Renovating the Grange”. To many of us this has been long overdue. We are updating our programs and way of doing business to make it all more efficient and relevant to today’s’ world. Our office system as discussed at convention is designed to be more accessible, with less expenditure, have more open communication lines, offer transparency to our members and actually get things accomplished in a timely manner. There is always room for improvement and I challenge you and your ideas in helping this organization to become the best it can be!

With hard work we can make California alive again, On all levels; Local, State and National. By working together and being active participants WE CAN make a difference in rebuilding our organization. We can modernize it in a way that will draw in new members that have additional skills, ideas and knowledge to contribute, teach and mentor our upcoming youth. The youth in this organization is the future and blood line of the Grange. We need to make this a priority.

In August we have our 2016 Western Regional Conference to be held in Portland Oregon, August 5-7. All is welcome! For more info contact Ed Komski or master@orgrange.org. for a registration form. Deadline in July 14, 2016. We would love to see you there!

Cynthia KomskiWe also have a lot to look forward to in the upcoming 2016 National Convention. The National Grange will be celebrating 150 years and will be held in the Washington DC area. It should be a week of spectacular fun filled with field trips and Grange History! We would love to see participation from California for all those who come. If you can’t attend please access on-line to visually see what happens at the National level.

The following year, the National Convention 2017 will be closer to home in Spokane, Washington. We are still in the planning stages, for those who wish to participate. Spokane is a beautiful place to visit and we are planning much fun, so please think about putting it on your calendars.

Ed and I will hopefully be able to visit many of you and your Grange Halls in the next 2 years as life permits us to. I wish all of you a terrific summer and we hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,
Cynthia Komski, First Lady

Thanks to KB Properties for their support of the Grange

Here’s another way to support the Grange if you are buying or selling Real Estate:

The Sebastopol Grange extends thanks to the KB Properties team of Adam Goldberg and Chelsea Wiecek for their recent donation. KB Properties donates up to 5% of their commission to the non-profit of their clients’ choice, including the Sebastopol Grange. KB Properties believes there is no better way to introduce their clients to their community than through the act of giving back.

Recently, KB Properties donated a portion of their commission to the Sebastopol Grange for two recently-closed transactions with Grange President Vince Scholten. If you want to support the Grange and work with two seasoned Real Estate professionals, call Adam Goldberg at 707 321 2111 or Chelsea Wiecek at 707 696 2299 at KB Properties.

Hall Happenings at the June 28 Meeting

Welcome at Grange

Grangers and friends enjoyed pizza, lots of shared salads and sides, homegrown fruits and vegetables, and some scrumptious desserts.

The Grange welcomed new members: Victoria Johnston, Malia Elsner and Manina Seamons.

New members

Jannike and Pauline Allen, Grange scholarship recipients, told us about their school experiences: Jannike going to Portland State University for Environmental Science; Pauline went to SRJC, spent a year in Norway, and is now on to Evergreen State College in Olympia WA, Environmental Studies/Science.

Scholarship recipients

Past President Jerry Allen led a sing-along of his song “We Gotta Vote, Every Day” about the importance of buying and banking local. “Sonoma County citizens send $22 billion every year to Wall Street banks and only 1% ever comes back. We can change that…” he says.

Analise and Ariel Scholten told us about the many awards they won at the Sonoma-Marin fair for their lifestock.

Analise and Ariel Scholten

Jerry Allen, past president of the Sebastopol Grange, was sworn in as a member of the California State Grange Executive Committee by president Vince Scholten.  Our Grange treasurer, Gary Abreim was elected at the convention to be State Grange Treasurer. Vince was elected State Grange Gatekeeper.

Jerry Allen

Our delegates to the State Grange Convention, Vince and Lecturer Evan Wiig representing the Sebastopol Grange and Gary and Jerry representing the Sonoma Pomona, spoke about their overwhelmingly positive experience at the convention and the collaboration and progress that was made there.
