Six Ukrainian professionals who are visiting Sebastopol will be offering a community presentation
regarding their professional experience in Ukraine and their initial impressions of the U.S. on Friday
February 2 nd at 7pm at the Sebastopol Grange Hall. The delegates are in Sebastopol as part of Open
World, a Congressionally-sponsored program that brings professionals from former Soviet and
developing countries to the U.S. to experience open government and study a variety of topics pertinent
to their countries. This group’s focus topic is “Developing Child and Family Counseling Networks”. During
their two weeks in Sebastopol they will be meeting with City Council members, County Supervisor Lynda
Hopkins, State Senator Mike McGuire, and U.S. Representative Jared Huffman. They are also visiting
various individuals and organizations providing human services around Sonoma County.
The Open World group’s visit is being coordinated by Sebastopol World Friends, a volunteer-run
organization that manages Sebastopol’s sister city activities. Sebastopol has sister cities in Takeo, Japan
and Chyhyryn, Ukraine. Two of the delegates are from Chyhyryn, another is from Santa Rosa’s sister city,
Cherkasy, and another is from a town nearby, Smila.
